The standard hangout is a chill interview experience where one “live streams” themselves talking about questions and problems as if they were streaming on Twitch. The idea is to create a comfortable environment where the candidate is free to explore and approach problems in any way they wish.

There is no concept of time limits, cheating, or any requirements at all. You don’t even have to solve the actual problems if you don’t want to. Just think through them out loud. And feel free to skip any questions if you feel they slow you down.

Setting up

We recommend using OBS to record your “stream”. OBS is a popular and open-source streaming platform that allows you add multiple layers of media to your recording. For example, you can add an audio layer, a shape layer, a camera layer, or a screen recording layer.

Submitting

When you are finished with your recording, please email a link of it to brains@standardnotes.org.

You can use a filesharing provider of your choice, such as Dropbox or Google Drive, or host it unlisted on YouTube, Vimeo, and other similar services.

Set up your stream environment, then press Begin after you begin recording.
